Obituary of Michael Hays
Michael Todd Hays was someone you could rarely catch without a smile. The joy he found in everyday life was contagious to the lives he touched. He died unexpectedly early Oct. 3 in Florence, Kentucky where he lived for over 20 years. He is survived by Paula Monroe Hays, his wife of 22 years; his two children, Caylan and Leanne Hays; his parents, Ethridge Hays and Barbara Burtram Hays; and his sister, Sue Hays Graham. Hays held onto to his child-like spirit his whole life. His youthful approach to life made him a wonderful husband and father; and his gentle disposition brought comfort to those surrounding him. His unconditional love created space for his daughters to talk to him as they talk to a friend. “He’s just my everything. He loved me to completion,” Paula Hays said of the devoted, adoring husband Hays was. The two met while studying at the University of Alabama and got married on August 19, 1995. Hays was an avid supporter and long-time champion of Alabama athletics. You could find him in the fall at Bryant-Denny Stadium, alongside his wife and two daughters, dressed head to toe in crimson and white with shakers in hand, relishing in the wonderful campus community. A friend to all who knew him, Hays’ deep, meaningful relationships are what enriched his life and his commitment to nourishing those relationships are what made him the best friend to have. His loved ones find comfort in knowing he rests peacefully with the Lord. Visitation will be held at Don Catchen & Son Funeral Homes in Erlanger, Kentucky 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, followed by the memorial service at 7 p.m. Crimson and houndstooth attire is welcomed to celebrate Hays’ love for the University of Alabama. In lieu flowers, tax-deductible donations can be made in honor of Mike to the Hays Family Fund through Cannonballs for Kayne Foundation online at www.cannonballsforkayne.org/haysfamily or to PO Box 1738 Ormond Beach, FL 32175.
