Obituary of Donald J Kleman
Donald J. Kleman, 69, of Akron, OH, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2018 in Florence, KY. Donald (Don) was born October 14, 1948 in Akron, OH to Donald G. and Hazel A. Kleman. He graduated from St. Vincent – St. Mary High School in Akron, OH in 1966. Don went on to matriculate at The University of Akron, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business – Middle East Concentration in 1973.
Don had a remarkable career in international business relations, spanning over thirty years. He served in several prominent roles at NCR Corporation for almost twenty years, which allowed him to frequently travel abroad. He also held esteemed positions at Hobart Brothers Company and Aurora Casket Company, where he retired from in 2016. One of Don’s greatest pleasures in life was traveling. Wherever his travels would take him, whether it be Paris, France or Istanbul, Turkey, Don loved experiencing different cultures, immersing himself in his surroundings, and meeting new people. Don had a deep appreciation for the arts, frequently attending various ballet, symphonic, and operatic performances over the years. He enjoyed filling his home with diverse works of art and literature, from impressionistic style paintings to Native American pieces. Beyond his love of travel, history, and art, Don was a skilled cook in the home and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Don Kleman is preceded in death by his parents, Donald G. Kleman and Hazel A. Kleman, and his late wife, Patricia Kleman. He is survived by his sister, Janice (Randy) Saffles; brother, Richard (Kim) Kleman; two sons, Jeff (Faye) Kleman and Kevin (Nikki) Kleman; daughter, Kristen (Joey Mead) Kleman-Mead; three grandchildren, Sarah (Matt Farmer) Kleman, Jeffery Kleman, and Stephen Kleman; niece, Karen (Matt) Elliott; two nephews, Michael Kleman and Daniel (Stephanie) Kleman; family friend Cheryl Colby; and several other close friends. He is also survived by his two Bichon Frise dogs, Max and Harvey, whom were his devoted companions to the end. Visitation hours for those wishing to pay respects to Don will be held from 2:00PM to 4:00PM on Sunday July 8, 2018 at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, 3525 Dixie Hwy, Elsmere, KY 41018. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Chapter of Kentucky in Don’s honor.
