Peter Lobue

Obituary of Peter A Lobue

Peter Anthony Lobue passed away on April 1, 2020 in Lakeside Park, KY. Peter was born in Los Alamitos, California, to parents Christine and Michael Lobue, and big brother Eric. His family later moved to Vienna, Virginia for junior high and high school. He found his lifelong love of science in college, and he graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 2001. His journey then took him—and many of his Virginia friends—to Colorado where he worked as a scientist at a small biopharma company, played the drums, and built a lovely life and community. He met his wife, Amy (Farley) Lobue, there in 2012, and they were married in June 2014. They later moved to northern Kentucky in 2015, so Amy could work at the University of Cincinnati and Peter could pursue a lifelong dream—joining a doctoral program in analytical chemistry. This is where their son Michael was born, in October 2015. With plans to graduate with his PhD this year, Peter embarked on a new journey this fall, starting what he called his “dream job” working as a consultant to the EPA as an analytical chemist focused on water quality issues. Peter’s kind and gentle spirit carried him through this world and lifted up everyone around him. He enjoyed the little things in life: Star Wars and superheroes, cozy pajamas that he wore basically anytime he was home, movie nights on the couch, clean sheets, and wasted time with the people he loved. He was also good at almost everything he tried: He was a talented musician, a brilliant scientist, a consummate fixer and handyman, skilled indoor gardener, natural animal caregiver, and a comedian and jokester right until the end. Beyond those things, however, Peter shone most when it came to the people in his life. He was a committed and devoted son to his parents and brother to Eric and his wife Cynthia. He was a generous and loving friend, leaving behind many people to keep his memories alive. He was a conscientious and supportive coworker, sharing his enthusiasm for science and his natural wit with all he met. He warmly embraced his mother-in-law and welcomed her to the family when she moved to live with them in 2017—something few people would do so easily and with such grace. As a husband, Peter understood and embodied unconditional love, showing it to his wife every day. Most of all, Peter found his true calling when Michael was born. He was an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime father—the kind you’d find sitting on the ground playing, making up games, taking him to outings at the park, reading in bed, or just loving on him with his whole heart. They shared countless inside jokes and stories, and they could often be found going on “dates.” Their special bond is one that will most certainly transcend this world and carry Michael forward as he grows into a young boy and a man that is as special and loving as his dad. While so many people will miss him and grieve this loss that came way too soon, Peter’s legacy and spirit will be carried on by those who loved him. We will keep him alive in our hearts, and Michael asks you to look for him in the rainbows. Services will be at the convenience of the family.
