Arthur Zeis

Obituary of Arthur Joseph Zeis

Arthur (Art) Joseph Zeis, Age 81, passed away on Monday, Aug. 10, 2020 in Erlanger, Kentucky in his home he loved. He was the loving husband of Juliana (Julie)Zeis, loving Dad to Erin Nicole Canter, adored “Pops” to Joshua Alan Canter, and #1 “Papaw (Paps)” Art to Caden Dean Canter, who was the love of his life. Caden was Art’s pride and joy. Also survived by children, John Zeis (grandson Tyler Zeis), the late Kevin Zeis (grand-daughter Kennedy Zeis), Theresa (Ernie), Kelley, (grandchildren John and Ana), brother and sister-in- law Charlie and Cheryl Zeis and family, sister Betty Godby and family. He is also survived by his extended family; Jim and Betty Moorehead, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, whom he loved so much. He loved each one and enjoyed our large family gatherings. He was preceded in death by parents, Arthur and Helen Zeis. Art loved his family. Going to our farm in Ohio and getting on the tractor with Caden was a favorite way to pass the time. He was always teaching him something new. Caden was introduced to the track and the horses by Paps. He was fortunate to spend time with Art at Kentucky Downs at last year’s meet. Art was a Thoroughbred Trainer for many years. He loved the business and everything about the race track. He loved the horses and he loved the people; trainers, owners, and grooms. It was in his blood and it was what made him happy. He made lifelong friends over the many years. Art’s impact on the horse racing community, the good times and the memories he leaves behind, will by far outlive the pain we feel today. Please help us remember Art, our husband, Dad, Paps and friend. During these tough times of Covid-19 and also honoring Art’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. We will, however, have a celebration of life, for which a date has not been determined.
