Obituary of Samuel J Morano

Samuel J. Morano, 101 years young, of 400 Farrell Dr, Fort Wright, KY 41011, passed away on 15 September 2021 of natural causes. He was born on 11 February 1920 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents were Mary Sansone and Giacomo Morano. As a teenager he began working as a Vegetable Pushcart Vendor selling produce up and down the streets of Chicago. Later as driver helper for the J. B. Graziono Company making produce deliveries throughout the city. As a young man in 1940 during the Great Depression, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) where he worked on environmental projects helping to shape the modern national and state park systems we enjoy today. Following the CCC he enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and served from 1942 to 1946 serving in both the Philippines and Japan as a Medical Corpsman and Surgical Technician, Grade T4, and was Honorably Discharged on 10 February 1946. After his military service he married Ruth Stadtmiller in February 1946, and started as an apprentice sheet metal worker at Glenway Sheet Metal, Cincinnati, Ohio where he worked until he retired. He is predeceased by his wife Ruth, second wife Mary Detzel Morano, and sisters Mary, Rose and Josephine. He is survived by his four children, Judy (Jim) Kerrigan, Pamela (David) Stevens, Michael (Pam) Morano and David Morano, 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren. Viewing/Service/Military Honor Guard Salute will be held on Tuesday, 21 September 2021, between 5 pm and 7 pm at Don Catchen & Sons Funeral Home, 3525 Dixie Highway, Elsmere, KY.
