Virginia Case

Obituary of Virginia M. Case

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Virginia M. Case, passed away peacefully at home December 22, 2021. Virginia was born Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1931 at her grandmother’s home in Newport, KY to Clifford and Mary Theodora (nee Coles) Nash. She married Russell Case on December 30, 1950. Virginia began married life as a homemaker. After her husband suffered a debilitating stroke in 1975, she worked tirelessly to help him relearn to walk while caring for their five children. In 1979, Virginia re-entered the workforce at the circulation desk of the Kenton County Public Library in downtown Covington. When she retired in 1996, she had served many years as the head of the Northern Kentucky branch of the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (Talking Book Library). The library was the perfect work environment for Virginia who was a lifelong reader. She enjoyed her work very much, carefully selecting books with an eye for a person’s preferences and becoming a valued friend to many patrons. At her retirement party the library presented her with a gold library card in recognition of her service and love of reading. In retirement, Virginia lived a quiet life reading and watching Turner Classic Movies while caring for her husband who passed away in 2004 after 53 years of marriage. In her final years she enjoyed the company of her family who spent more and more time with her as her health declined and she grew increasingly frail. Mom is survived by her children: Arthur (Michelle) Case, Ruslyn (Charles) Compton, Susan (Michael) Hughes, Elizabeth Case and Deborah Case (Steven Dreier); ten grandchildren: Nicole (Brian) King, Erin (Zachary) Miles, Margaret (Todd) Pinsker, Marion (Michael) Barrow, Calista Case, Anthony Case, Thomas Case, Tavish Case, Parker Dreier, and Cassidy Dreier; and six great-grandchildren: Elena and Jackson King, Emerson and Bradyn Miles, and Aubrey and Cole Pinsker. A private family service takes place December 29. Extended family and friends are invited to a brief outdoor interment service on Thursday, December 30 at 10:00 A.M. at Highlands Cemetery Mausoleum, 2167 Dixie Hwy, Fort Mitchell, KY. Memorial donations may be made to the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky, P.O. Box 332, Covington, KY 41012 (, or Boone County Animal Care & Control, 5643 Idlewild Rd., Burlington, KY 41005. Our family is grateful for the love and support of our relatives and friends during this time of sorrow.
